NBA's trend: Lack of loyaty

The NBA as we know it today is much different than in the past. The fans of today know it for the high paid superstars and "Superteams," which seem to be the basis for a larger fan following. I believe that today's NBA is using these "Superteams" in hopes for a larger audience, and more dollar signs for the association. However, there are negatives to this new age in the NBA. First of all, where are these superstars going? They're going to bigger cities with a larger fan base and a fatter paycheck. What happened to the days of superstars competing AGAINST each other every year?

It is in my opinion that the new widely accepted idea in the NBA is "if you can't beat them, then join them." This is PATHETIC!!!! I'll go on and say it... I completely disagree with Kevin Durant's decision to join with Golden State. Not only is it bad for the fans of OKC, but also for the NBA as a whole. This is a team who just recently had the best record of all time this past season with their three stars: Curry , Thompson, and Green. The fans of OKC showed nothing but support for their superstar Kevin Durant who was there since 2008. For Durant to make such a decision, shows no dedication and loyalty to the city and Fans of OKC. These superstars are taking away from smaller market teams such as Minnesota, Memphis, and Indiana to name a few.

As a fan, I can only hope that the NBA will do a better job ensuring these stars are more widespread throughout the league. I couldn't agree with commissioner Silver more when he explained that "there is room on every team to be a leader." However, we're seeing more followers than leaders in this new NBA. It's clear to me that money and championships are far more important than representing their own cities and fans. So for all professional athletes in the NBA playing for a living, or should I say paycheck, suck it up and be a leader, not a follower. In order to have a better NBA, there has to be more loyalty among players to their cities and fans, who pay so much to watch them play.
